Updated the blog for WordPress 2.6.2. Turned off the WP Polls and Super-Cache. Had to create a new Modifications page as there was something wrong with the old one. Readers must now be registered and logged in in order to comment on posts.

OK, I just went ahead and changed over to the Vader2 Dueling Sidebars skin in the K2 theme for WordPress. I also activated the Archive page properly and reactivated the Polls plugin. Hope this helps.

  3. Steve says:

I deactivated Ajaxed WordPress plugin and implemented the TinyMCE Comments plug in. This makes the blog more backwards compatible.

  4. Steve says:

All right, we have upgraded to WordPress 2.7 All plugins are up-to-date and everything seems to work a lot better.

I have turned off the following plugins:

Subscribe2 – sends an email when you post.
Subscribe2 Sidebar Widget – shows Number of Subcribe2 subscribers.
Comment Sorter – sorts comments any way you like, handled by AJAX’d WordPress.
Search Docs – Allows me (the admin) the ability to search the WordPress Codex from the Dashboard, now handled by WordPress itself.
WPhone – Allows me to post and manage the blog from my iPhone. WordPress now has a standalone app for the iPhone available in the App Store.

    I have reactivaed the following as they have been updated for WP 2.7 and I liked them;

Post Notification – A subset of Suscribe2, but a lot more options.
MCEComments – puts the rich text editor on the comments pane.
WP Super Cache – supposed to make the blog load faster.

By turning off Subscribe2, I hope to alleviate the problem of duplicate email notifications. Enjoy.

Had a bit of a hitch today. Apparently, the Gravatar plugin was causing hell with the blog’s database, forcing it into some kind of loop. Bottom line, it wouldn’t load. I have had tech support (thanks Greg) at my host, Nexcess.net, look into it and they fixed it with their usual alacrity. Now, I should be able to post regularly.

In the last couple of days, I added three new categories; Testing, DIY, and Los Angeles. Testing is for private posts so I can work with my blog editor. Those posts are not notified. DIY is for projects of interest I find from Make Magazine, or Instructables. Los Angeles is very self explanatory.

Also, I fixed my Blogo problem. The good guys over there helped me pinpoint the issue, and now it works great.

  8. Steve Smyth says:

OK, changed the theme to the new, improved K2/Vader2 theme, uploaded the new header image, upgraded the blog over the last weekend and upgraded all plugins.

  9. Steve Smyth says:

As much as I like the black look, I don't think it was very readable. Went to the white with custom banners.

  10. Steve Smyth says:

Went ahead and updated to WordPress 2.8 and updated a crap load of plugins. Some seem to work and one or two are going to have to go though another update to meet compatibility with 2.8.

  11. Steve Smyth says:

I have updated another crap load of plugins and everything is up to date. Also, went for the Kubrick 3 column theme for the blog. It is very clean and readable.

  12. Steve Smyth says:

Something is wrong with the blog, as I can't update posts or plugins. I have put in a ticket to my host, we'll see.

  13. Steve Smyth says:

Looks like my host has fixed the problem. Maybe I didn't upgrade quickly enough.
