Posting With Blogo for Mac
Posted on May 28th, 2008 by Steve
I actually found Blogo by accident. There are some pretty cool features here, preview using my blog theme being the best one. Mostly, though, it feels uncooked. I’m not really happy with the overall interface, the fact that it didn’t download my category list and then give me a way to insert a category is no good, no inline spell check and the fact that LiveJournal support is “coming soon” and you can see why I will still be using ecto. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to learn programming so I can solve this problem.

OK, I turned on the spell check, and learned how to do categories. The category entry is very much like entering addresses in Mail, very slick. I can tell you what it needs from the outset:
Smiley support
Email notifications
Local entries
Services menu
The ability to do SOME HTML
Other than that, I will give it try on a few real entries here in the next couple of days.
Thanks for your comment Benjamin, sometimes I get so excited; the heat of the moment, you understand. In any case, I will install again on my home Mac, where I can give it a better shot. I’ve been looking for something as good as BlogJet and Live Writer for the Mac. I am not an HTML guru, I just want to get the stuff I write up to my space. Glad to see you guys are working hard on it.
Thanks for your review. Some answers to your concerns:> the fact that it didn’t download my category list and then give me a way to insert a category is no goodBlogo will download your categories at the same time as your post list. Categories are added to the same field as tags but prefixed with a hash (#) to distinguish them. If you type a hash it should pop up a list for you.> no inline spell checkInline spellcheck is turned off by default in WebKit, which we’re using for our editor. You can turn it on by right clicking and choosing “Check spelling as you type” from the spelling menu. We’re looking into what’s necessary to turn this on by default.> LiveJournal support is “coming soon”LiveJournal is working on an Atom API which will have many more possibilities than the currently (very) limited XML-RPC API. Due to this we elected to delay support for the platform until the new API is out. Thanks for your feedback and please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
