Loscon 32

Science Fiction

I went to this, the 32nd convention of the LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society), and would like to thank the following for helping me get thru it:

Elise and Beverly: You guys are great. Thanks for hanging with me while my wife was out chauffering Virginia Hey (yes Farscapers, that Virginia Hey) from her home to the hotel and back all weekend. You put on one heck of a party too. I don’t go to parties at cons anymore, so to get me to go to yours was big. I finally got to talk to Tim Powers and convince him that he does know my wife, even though he doesn’t remeber it.

Arlene: As always, the glue that holds these things together, however is Scott going to manage without you on committee at 33?

Dave, Deanna, Christian and Tadao. I didn’t get to see you as much as I wanted. Maybe next year.

Kory, a welcome surprise.

Jim, Alan and Trillian. I know what the hurdles are. Let’s see if we can jump them next year.

Mike Mason: It won’t ever be the same again.

Let’s try for a napkinhead reunion next year, shall we?

    Jim,

    Thanks for seeking me out. I am glad the participants on both panels shut up to some extent and let the audience have their say. A lot of times panelists act more like pundits and say “this is how it is. I have spoken.” I was just glad I could pipe in when I did.

    I thought I saw you at The Writers of the Future party for a few minutes, and was going to go over and intro myself, but it seemed like you bailed quickly. I will be at Loscon next year helping in registration and hopefully they will let me do some panels, however, I doubt it, I don’t know the Programming guru.

    –Steve

    Dear Steve;

    I’m the guy with the rather … vocal opinions in both your Galactica and Star Trek panels (the one who kept looking at his watch as the crowd was gathering outside).

    I was hoping to catch you in the hallways to say how much I enjoyed both panels. Not only because the panelists let me and the rest of the audience particpate (perhaps more than we should have) but because the panels were informative and inciteful.

    As an old-school sci-fi and television buff (and first generation Mac user), I truly enjoyed the time, and hope to see you again at some future event.

    Thanks for participating.

    Jim
