Hey this is a great idea.

Direct Windows Media (WM) support for the Mac is drying up over there in Redmond, so, third party provider Flip4Mac has provided WM plugins for Quicktime, and it works really good. Only one little snag…

I like to listen to streaming radio from KTLK (left wing talk) and KFI (Leo Laporte) and the plugin does not work in Safari or Firefox. This is because Clear Channel, the owner of both stations, streams through Eon Streams. The Flip4Mac plugin has an error in one line that I can’t fix and is incompatible with the Eon player.

So, this has forced me to listen on Internet Explorer 5, which I excised from my computer and have since had to download and install again. It still has the old version of the WM plugin and supports the Windows Media Player app.

I don’t want to uninstall the plugin from Quicktime because it is useful and I only want to go forward, but this is ridiculous. Get on it Flip4Mac.

Looks like this is fixed. Go to Flip4mac or microsoft.com./mac and you can grab it and install. Streaming works great.

I recently downloaded it and I can not sing it’s praises sp loud. It works great on files and it has seemed to improve on my version of Safari. Then again, I am only downloading movies, trailers and shorts.

Well, as long as they provide the codecs, we don’t need a WMV player, however, it would be nice if third party providers would get on it.

Sucks that Microsfot is abandoning the mac format. At least we still get Word and Entorauge.
