Cheney’s Got a Gun
Yeah, I know, lame. You probably saw or heard the story today already. VP Dick Cheney was out hunting quail on a ranch in Texas (the only state in the US that requires a gun rack in the back window of every pick up by law) when the hunting party got out of the car (just shows you how lazy they are, can’t even bother to hunt on foot) the quail were flushed and Mr. Cheney, spotting a suitable victim…
According to CNN “…whirled around to fire at a bird not realizing that Whittington (Cheney’s hunitng companion, Harry Whitington, who serves on the Texas state Funeral Services Commission and the state Office of Patient Protection and is a former member of the board of the Texas Department of Corrections) had walked up without announc(ing) himself.”
The article goes on to indicate no official “condition” for Mr. Whittington, except to say that “he is doing fine and in good spirits.”
Well I would hope so. To be fair, if this hadn’t been VP Cheney, it probably wouldn’t have gotten any airplay at all. I don’t even think this qualifies as police blotter material in the local paper. People get in hunting accidents all the time. I expect Mr. Whittington will do a better job of announcing himself the next time he is out hunting with anyone.
Please fellow Democrats, I know this is funny, because Mr. Whittington didn’t die, and he is probably a Bush appointee and all, but please, this is not something to make political hay out of. This isn’t kids shooting kids or dad shooting his son thinking he was an intruder because sonny didn’t have his key and had to come in thru the window, this is grown up men trying to kill defenseless animals.

Well, Jim, there is no reason why he shouldn’t. Mr. Whitington is VP Cheney’s friend and this was a minor incident. I found out today the hunting party was carrying .28 guage shot guns and packing bird shot loads. This is pretty light; if you were 50 feet from the barrel of the gun and you got shot in the behind, you might sting for a few days, but you wouldn’t die.
My fear is that there are Democrats and GOP alike that are willing to take something like this and blow it all out of proportion to make some cheap political points. Sure, Cheney probably feels like a real doofus. Doesn’t mean there is a conspiracy theory going on.
And watch he gets off scot-free, I really hate this government, more corrupt than the Nixon times.
