I am just a little miffed at the World Trade Center Building Commission, you know, the guys that are supposed to be erecting the new Freedom Tower in almost the exact spot as the twin towers were standing. I was watching “Countdown” with Keith Olberman last night and he noticed that there was nothing but a big hole in the ground–still.

According to their website:

“Construction on the tower, which will have a cubic base, is slated to begin in early 2006. Steel will be visible above ground in 2007, and by 2010 the building will be ready for occupancy — nine years after the World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorist attacks.”

I don’t see that they have even started anything, besides building the lights that have stood in for the twin towers for memorials and anniversaries. As far as the new tower is concerned, if they get it done by 2015 that would be a miracle. Frankly, I would open it on 9/11/11, on the ten year anniversary, but, as I said, they haven’t even started.

What has happened to the USA? All we can do is spout platitudes and make empty promises. Remember when JFK said,

“We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy - but because they are hard! Because that challenge is one we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone and one we intend to win!”

Dammit, why can’t we have that kind of spirit or committment from our government now? Brazil for cryin’ out loud just ended their dependence on foreign oil. It wasn’t just like that, it took time, but if Bush put the same kind of drive into that, or rebuilding New Orleans, or even The World Trade Center, we could get some great things done.

As long as the current administration wants to blame, point fingers, shirk its responsiblity, attempt to change facts by denying the truth, and live like people who dissent are traitors, we are never going to beat the inertia we are in, even after Bush is removed from office because of term limits.

JFK also said, “Too often we…enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
