Wordpress 2.2 & Firefox Text Add-ons

Blogging Fixes Software Tech

I have just upgraded to the new version of Wordpress, 2.2, and I love it. What is especially nice is the new Widget architecture and more robust support for WP plug-ins. I also love Firefox 2.0, and its add-on architecture as well. There is always one fly in the ointment, as it were. I was using the BBComposer add-on for Firefox. The reason I say "was" is because BBComposer breaks the rich text editor in Wordpress. At least on the Macintosh, I haven't tested it with Windows yet. Once I disabled Firefox and restarted, I got the full functionality back.

BBComposer adds a BBCode toolbar to the Firefox interface. This allows you to have rich text editing tools for the following formats right inside Firefox; XHTML, BBCode, XBBCode and Wiki. What Wordpress has is a tabbed text entry field and BBComposer didn't meld with it so well. You would still have the tabs at the top of WP's text editor window, however, the preview, or "Visual Editor" was now in a separate pane. Attempting to get to the Code pane was impossible. Since there was nothing in the Code pane, saving meant the text had nowhere to go, and was lost, however, you could preview the post, and see what it was going to look like, sans entry. Frustrating.

Anyway, it now works as the last two posts plus this were all composed in the rich text editor.

As I wrote, I am sufficiently satisfied with the current theme until I can really design my own templates.
