The Andromeda Strain - It’s Not Science It’s Fiction

This Memorial Day (tomorrow night) on A&E channel, Ridley and Tony Scott’s version of Michael Chrichton’s seminal techno-thriller, The Andromeda Strain is premiering. I will see it and report back (there will probably be spoilers). Before I do, I want to deal with the reviews that are coming out and some big picture issues about […]

Survive a Zombie Apocalypse - Wired How-To Wiki

Survive a Zombie Apocalypse - Wired How-To Wiki:
Wired How-To just posted a new article on how to survive the zombie apocalypse. Here are some of their suggestions:

History of Anime on STARZ

Last night I caught the History of Anime special on STARZ. Meh.
While their interpretation of the timeline was fairly decent (they put anime in the context of manga, the influence of Osamu Tezuka [he didn’t pronounce the “u”, so it would be Tez-ka; they all got it wrong], and anime’s influence on modern action films), […]

The service was excellent, food plentiful, accommodations comfortable, the shower was excellent (that is my barometer for most hotel stays) the only drawback was the dreadful internet […]

Loscon 34

Here I am at the beautiful Marriott LAX hotel on Sunday, 11/25/07. I am cleaning the room (yes, I know, I DON’T HAVE TO DO IT! I was a hotel housekeeper right out of high school and briefly in 1989 so I feel a certain kinship with my oppressed brothers and sisters) and getting ready […]

Need I Say More…

Seven years later, looking at a moonless sky from the coast of New Mexico…

Loscon 32

I went to this, the 32nd convention of the LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society), and would like to thank the following for helping me get thru it:
